Automakers are meeting rising vehicle emissions requirements in part through using credits earned in prior years or by buying excess credits from rivals.

The company has reports of 16 vehicle fires and one minor injury between March and October that may be related to the recall. Stellantis said the recall fix is under development.

Chrysler parent Stellantis is recalling 19,808 plug-in hybrid minivans and urged owners to stop recharging them, after reports of 12 fires in parked vehicles.
