Powerball jackpot soars to $1.4B, fourth-largest in game's history

Estimated cash value stands at $634.3M after no ticket matched all numbers on Monday

The Powerball jackpot surged to an estimated $1.4 billion ahead of Wednesday night's drawing, making it the fourth-largest prize in the game's history.

The pot grew after no ticket matched all six numbers from Monday night's drawing.

The white balls were 8, 23, 25, 40, 53. The red Powerball was 5.

It now has an estimated cash value of $634.3 million, according to the lottery. The winner will walk away with much less after federal taxes are taken out, with the government taking a 37% cut, leaving the winner with 63%, based on IRS estimates.

Many winners will also get hit with a state tax that can range from 3% to 11%. California, Florida, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming don't tax lottery winnings.
