WalletHub also found the top cities for football by population size

Football is an American tradition, but there are some places in the U.S. that are better for football fans than others.

On Monday, WalletHub published a report that found the best cities for football fans.

For its findings, the personal finance website compared 245 U.S. cities with at least one football team -- either college or professional.

The cities were measured by 21 metrics that included: number of NFL teams, average ticket price for an NFL game, franchise value, number of college football teams, college football fan engagement and number of coaches in the past 10 seasons, among others.

Not only did WalletHub find an overall result, but the website also divided its findings by division -- professional football and college football -- as well as city size.

Pittsburgh, Pa., ranked as the top city overall for football fans as well as the top city in the large-city category and the professional football category, according to a report from WalletHub.

The top three cities for the pro football division were, in order: Pittsburgh, Pa.; Boston, Mass.; and Dallas, Texas.

Meanwhile, the top three cities for college football were Clemson, S.C.; Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and Fargo, N.D.
