Dental health is the best and worst in these states: Report

Wisconsin, Illinois and Minnesota made it to the top of the list

Dental health is an important part of overall health, but getting good care can depend on where you live.

On Thursday, WalletHub published a report that found which states -- including Washington, D.C. -- are the best and worst for dental care.

One of the important factors the financial website considered was the cost of dental care and treatments.

On average, a checkup costs between $90 and $137, WalletHub reported. Meanwhile, a filling can cost between $230 and $313 and a crown can cost more than $1,200.

Aside from the cost, WalletHub also looked at 25 other metrics in two categories: dental care habits, and oral health.

Some of the other measurements the website analyzed included share of adults who visited a dentist in the past year, sugar-sweetened beverage consumption among adolescents, oral health knowledge, share of elderly population with no natural teeth and work absence due to oral condition.

The best state for dental health is Wisconsin and the worst is Mississippi, according to a report from WalletHub.

Aside from the overall ranking, WalletHub found that the state with the lowest sugar-sweetened beverage consumption was Connecticut while the highest was Arkansas.

It also found that Utah has the lowest percentage of adult smokers and West Virginia has the highest percentage.

As far as dental treatment costs go, five states tied for the lowest costs. Those states included Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.

Meanwhile, six states tied for the most expensive dental costs, including Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
