What do Bayer and Monsanto sell? A look at the 2 companies

U.S. seed seller Monsanto agreed on Wednesday to be bought by Germany's Bayer AG for $57 billion, in a deal that would create a giant worldwide chemical and agricultural products company.

Here's a look at the two companies:

BAYER AG

PRODUCTS: Several brands of crop protection chemicals used to kill weeds, insects and fungal diseases. It also makes Claritin allergy medicine, Coppertone sunscreen and One-A-Day vitamins.

HEADQUARTERS: Leverkusen, Germany.

EMPLOYEES: Nearly 120,000 in 2015.

REVENUE: 46.3 billion euros, or $52 billion, in the year ending December 2015.

MONSANTO CO.

PRODUCTS: Sells several types of seeds and crop protection chemicals to farmers. It also makes Roundup, a weed and grass killer sold at home improvement stores.

HEADQUARTERS: St. Louis

EMPLOYEES: More than 20,000, it said Wednesday.

REVENUE: $15 billion for the fiscal year ending August 2015.
