Street Riding Longest Winning Streak in Six Months
Wall Street is riding its longest winning streak in six months, with the widely held S&P 500 now up five days in a row. Meanwhile, the Dow tacked on 40 points Monday and the Nasdaq Composite rose by 26.
The latest rally comes as 7 in 10 Americans say they are nervous to put money into the stock market. A new Bankrate study says most Americans would rather play it safe in liquid accounts, low-risk bonds and low-interest CDs.
Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX), meanwhile, is raising prices this summer. The price hike will be $1 to $2 for new subscribers only. The company made the announcement after reporting profits of $53 million in the most recent quarter.
This Earth Day, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is recycling your old devices for free, so they're not dumped in landfills. Some of the toxins in electronics are considered hazardous waste that can seep into the water system.
The move comes as Apple also vows to power its stores, offices, and data centers with renewable energy.
And, it may be time to start worrying about a banana shortage. A popular strain of the crop is under attack by a fungus that causes Panama disease that has hit bananas in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
The worry is it will spread to Central and South America, where the U.S. gets most of its bananas.
