AAA Reports Gas Prices Spike, Up 6 Cents Overnight

Gas prices have increased almost 12 cents per gallon this week and jumped 6 cents overnight, the result of the recent spike in oil prices, motorist group AAA reported on Friday.

The national average price for a gallon of regular gas rose 5.9 cents Friday to $3.287.

Although prices have not come close to the highest recorded average price of $4.114, they are expected to increase in the coming weeks, as a result of a surge in crude oil prices stemming from unrest in the Middle East. As of Friday afternoon, oil prices were hovering near $98 a barrel.

Thursday’s average price was $3.228, significantly higher than the $3.106 average one month ago and the $2.693 average one year ago.

Averages were calculated by AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
