Madonna's Palladium concert ends early, star says she was censored

Palladium cut lights, closed curtain with one song to go because of curfew

The London Palladium enforces a strict curfew — even for pop icon Madonna.

The singer was performing a show on her "Madame X Tour," when the lights and sound in the hall were cut and the curtain started closing around the scheduled 11 p.m. end time.

“It was 5 minutes past our curfew, we had one more song to do and The Palladium decided to censor us by pulling down the metal fire curtain that weighs nine tonnes,” Madonna wrote in Twitter post, where a video showed her and her backup crew singing their last song in front of the curtain. “Fortunately they stopped it halfway and no one was hurt. Many thanks to the entire audience who did not move and never left us. Power to the people!!"

Fans on social media were split: “Madonna just got cut off mid song by the Palladium curtain dropping and the lights coming up as she overran the curfew. Glorious moment. She finished the show a cappella in front of the curtain like a champ!” one account tweeted.

FANS REACT TO CANCELLED MADONNA SHOW: 'SOME OF US BOOKED FLIGHTS'

“Seeing as the owner of the theatre was in the audience they probably felt like they had to be seen to be doing their jobs! Don’t blame them for sticking to rules,” another account wrote. “You’re a rule breaker not everyone is! Pleeeease try to be on time.”

The Palladium did not immediately respond to a request for comment from FOX Business, but the theater operators said in a statement that it did not use the fire curtain and warned Madonna not to break the curfew: “Contrary to a number of reports, at no point during last night's performance did staff pull down, or attempt to pull down, the Iron Fire Curtain," a spokesman told the BBC.
