"Dave's expertise gained from his Nielsen role will add a fresh perspective to our Board," said Caterpillar chairman and CEO Doug Oberhelman. "He also brings significant manufacturing and high-technology industry expertise as evidenced by his former leadership of GE's aircraft engines and transportation businesses.

Muilenburg is an executive vice president at Boeing and president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security. He joined Boeing in 1985 and currently serves on its Executive Council.

He also serves on the Association of the United States Army Council of Trustees and the Washington University Board of Trustees, and he is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
