The insurer warned regulators last month that blocking its planned merger with Humana would force it to abandon the Obamacare exchanges, and now it's following through on its promise.

Aetna warned Justice Department antitrust officials in early July that if Humana deal was blocked, it would reduce its presence in the Affordable Care Act exchanges.

Aetna said that due to persistent financial losses on Obamacare plans, it will sell individual insurance on the government-run online marketplaces in only four states next year.
