The electric car maker asked the U.S. Trade Representative’s office to approve exemptions for Model 3 car computers and center console screens.

President Trump said he has a feeling China and the U.S. will reach a trade deal, but threatened raising tariffs if no agreement is made.

President Trump vowed to prevent China from ripping off the United States during his presidency.

If new China tariffs are imposed, the "easiest thing to do is to pass that on to the consumer,” said Jerome Griffith.

“By putting tariffs on the table we’ve estimated that maybe $400 billion or $500 billion dollars a year through forced technology transfer and intellectual property theft is taken out of the U.S. economy,” said Kevin Hassett.
