Toyota (NYSE:TM) is recalling 6.4 million vehicles worldwide for five problems related to seat rails, cables connected to air bags, engine starters, steering column brackets, and windshield wiper motors. Popular models such as the Rav4, Corolla, and Highlander are affected.

The government has fined General Motors (NYSE:GM) $28,000 -- so far -- for failing to respond to more than a third of its requests for information about a faulty ignition switch. The deadline was April 3.

In the meantime, American Airlines is changing its frequent flyer program.  Most passengers buying a ticket with miles won't get to check their bags for free anymore.  The airline is also introducing a tiered-point system for redeeming tickets using miles.
