Disney Planning 'Avatar' Theme-Park Attractions

The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:DIS) has reached an agreement with FOX Filmed Entertainment and filmmaker James Camerons Lightstorm Entertainment to create theme park attractions based on the movie Avatar, the companies announced Tuesday.

Disney said it plans to build the first Avatar theme park within the Animal Kingdom park, located in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. According to The Wall Street Journal, the new Avatar park is expected to cost an estimated $400 million to build.

The agreement between the three companies gives Disney exclusive global theme park rights to the Avatar franchise.

Disney said the arrangement leaves open the possibility of building additional Avatar theme parks in other locations.
