Trump tax cut provides relief for 80% to 90% of Americans: Sen. Mitch McConnell

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said the majority of Americans will enjoy relief from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.

“80% to 90% of the American people get tax relief out of this bill,” McConnell said during an interview with Fox News’ Neil Cavuto on Tuesday. “Not a single Democrat voted for it.”

Democrats are knocking the GOP tax reform bill, calling it a scam for not closing loopholes for corporations and the wealthy.

“And why is it a scam? Look at this. They put forth a tax bill that gives 83% of the benefits to the top 1%,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told a New Jersey audience Tuesday.

McConnell said Democrats won’t be able to repeal the GOP tax bill as long as Donald Trump is in the White House.

“There is no question they didn’t like this proposal and that they would undo it if they could,” he said. “They have already come out for repealing most of it.”

Republicans are selling tax reform, hoping it helps them in the midterm elections in November, while Democrats are trying to take away a major GOP legislative accomplishment.

“We're having this discussion with the American people,” McConnell said. “In the end, I think particularly on the Senate side and states like Montana and North Dakota, Missouri, Indiana, West Virginia, where we have competitive races, I think it's a pretty good argument to make that, you know, we allowed you to keep more of your hard-earned money than sending it to Washington.”
