Trump on Obama 'Birther' Movement: Clinton is the One that Started it

The “Birther” movement, which questioned whether President Obama was born in the United States, is resurfacing on the campaign trail.

Although Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was one of the key figures that pushed for the release of Obama’s birth certificate in 2011, he now claims Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton first raised the issue back during the 2008 presidential race.

“Hillary brought it up during her campaign, it was 2008, and it was brought up to a fare thee well and she brought it up and I was the one that was successful in getting him to release his birth certificate,” Trump told the FOX Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo.

Trump asserted that even though Clinton started the “Birther” controversy, she was unable to gain any traction with it like Trump did.

“She is the one that started it and she was unable, or incapable, of finishing it – that’s the way it worked out.”
