Sarah Sanders acted with ‘grace’ during Michelle Wolf roast: Corey Lewandowski

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders acted with grace under pressure during comedian Michelle Wolf’s scathing roast during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday night, according to Corey Lewandowski, the former campaign manager for Donald Trump in 2016.

“The ridicule that she had to undergo in that disgusting tirade, that rant that took place, was really uncalled for,” Lewandowski told FOX Business’ Trish Regan during an interview on Tuesday. “You know that’s the case when members of the mainstream media say how disappointed they were in the White House correspondents’ dinner.”

Wolf, who previously worked as a writer for “The Daily Show,” drew a mixed reaction for her remarks about the Trump administration, particularly those regarding Sanders.

“I actually really like Sarah,” Wolf said. “I think she’s very resourceful, like she burns facts and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smokey eye.”

Critics, including Maggie Haberman of The New York Times and NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell, lambasted Wolf for singling out Sanders, who attended the event.

“Sarah conducted herself with amazing grace and decorum and discipline,” Lewandowski said.

Margaret Talev, the president of the White House Correspondents’ Association and a correspondent for Bloomberg, said the program was intended to “offer a unifying message” about the group’s commitment “to a vigorous and free press while honoring civility, great reporting and scholarship winners, not to divide people.” She added that Wolf’s "monologue was not in the spirit of that mission.”

Lewandowski, however, said the response should have focused specifically on Wolf’s remarks on Sanders and Kellyanne Conway, who is counselor to the president. Of Conway, Wolf said she had the “perfect last name for what she does: Conway.” Said Lewandowski: “What we have not seen is the outcry from the White House Correspondents’ Association, specifically on the attacks of Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kellyanne Conway.”
