Huckabee: No one Turns Down a V.P. Position
As the 2016 presidential election narrows and looks more and more like a race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee weighed in on the presidential race and a potential Trump-Kasich ticket.
John Kasich himself recently told the FOX Business Network’s Stuart Varney that “there is zero chance I will be anybody’s vice presidential candidate, period, end of story.”
Despite Kasich saying he does not want to be considered as a vice presidential candidate, Huckabee had quite a different take on Trump-Kasich scenario.
“Nobody ever wants the vice presidency until it’s offered to them and then they never turn it down. Name me one person who was offered the vice presidency and said ‘no thank you, appreciate it, but no thank you’” Huckabee told Varney.
Huckabee continued, “Look, that’s what he’s supposed to say because if he ever said ‘yeah, gee, that would be terrific, well then his campaign is over. John Kasich had a good night last night.
Huckabee then weighed in on whether Kasich is now considered the establishment candidate in the Republican field.
“Well, it looks like the establishment is kind of circling around Ted Cruz more because they see that he’s got more delegates and maybe a better pathway, which is the greatest irony of all because Cruz has spent all his entire campaign saying ‘I’m against the establishment’ and now they’re all in his tent.”
“And the truth is he’s [Cruz] always had their money, I mean it was Wall Street hedge fund money, he’s had a lot of support, it’s just that the people in Washington in places of power didn’t necessarily like him. But he was a part of that, he was in the Bush Administration, in government almost all his life, he’s an Ivy Leaguer, I mean for him to say ‘I’m a total outsider’ was always a little bit of a stretch.”
