House to Seek 2-Week Extension of Government Spending Bill: Aide

Republican leaders in the House of Representatives are working on a two-week stopgap spending bill that would keep the government running beyond March 4 and would contain significant spending cuts, a senior aide said on Wednesday.

"Two weeks and roughly $4 billion (in spending cuts) would be reasonable to expect," a House Republican aide told Reuters.

The Senate would then have to consider the legislation. Democrats who control that chamber have been saying that there need to be spending cuts this year, but more time is needed to decide on those.
