GOP lawmakers question independence of Clinton email investigation

Republicans are calling for the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate Obama administration appointees and career FBI officials.

A group of 11 GOP lawmakers have written a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, FBI Director Christopher Wray and U.S. Attorney for the District of Utah John Huber asking them to investigate “potential violation(s) of federal statues” by former FBI Director James Comey, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, former Deputy Director of the FBI Andrew McCabe, FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI counsel Lisa Page.

“It is pretty obvious that the FBI and the DOJ, particularly the DOJ under President Obama were operating as adjuncts to the Obama agenda,” Ben Shapiro, The Daily Wire editor-in-chief, said during an interview with FOX Business’ Kennedy Wednesday.

The GOP congressmen argue that the investigation into Clinton’s emails was “motivated by a political agenda” and botched by the former FBI director.

“I don’t think the congressmen are wrong to point out the fact that James Comey had apparently pre-decided the outcome of the Hillary Clinton investigation,” Shapiro said.

Shapiro is questioning the Justice Department for allowing attorney-client privilege on behalf of Clinton’s top aide Cheryl Mills.

“The question is, was the FBI and the DOJ corrupt then or are they corrupt now or both,” he asks.
