Former Utah Republican Rep. Chaffetz on Tuesday said Democrats can’t afford to hang their electoral hats on illegal immigrants.

“You have the old guard with [Rep.] Nancy Pelosi continuing to do this,” Chaffetz, now a Fox News contributor, told FOX Business’ Stuart Varney on “Varney & Co.” “But, you’re giving a lot of ammunition to House Republicans and people running for Congress.”
The White House on Sunday asked Democrats to approve $25 billion for President Donald Trump’s proposed wall on the southern border of the U.S. in exchange for extending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA), but Democrats rejected the offer.
“The Democrats don’t want to fund it, but they got funding for everything else – we’re having a 14% increase by the end of the week on domestic discretionary spending,” Chaffetz said. “That’s a huge massive increase – and [Sen.] Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi ought to take that and run to the bank.”
Trump, while discussing the White House’s strategy to combat the opioid epidemic on Monday, called for building the border wall to keep out illegal immigrants and potentially illegal drugs.
