For all the attention the Trump University scandal has garnered throughout the 2016 election season, another education controversy has yet to receive as much outrage.
The Clintons are adding another check to their list of questionable practices as their connection with the Laureate International Universities paid Bill Clinton $16.5 million. The payments were over 2010-2014 to the presumptive first gentleman to serve as âhonorary chancellorâ of the for-profit universities and college.
Laureate Educationâs Founder Douglas Becker is also Chairman of the Board at International Youth Foundation. Through grants, the International Youth Foundation received donations from the U.S. Department of State for many years, according to the IYF.
Financial whistleblower Charles Ortel, who previously found gaps within Clinton's foundation, said on FOX Business Networkâs After the Bell that the disclosures from the foundation and Laureate transactions do not explain the money Bill was raking in.
âThe same regulators who are looking at the Laureate transactions, the SEC, the state regulators, the foreign regulators, should now turn their attention to the Clinton filings and look at these discrepancies, they are massive,â Ortel told host Melissa Francis.
Ortel said when he first saw the documents, he couldnât believe the filings from The Clinton Foundation had discrepancies.
âI took it around to a large number of experts, lawyers, accountants, etc., satisfied myself I was right. Then I satisfied myself that itâs such political consequences that it will take time for the public to get it,â Ortel said.
He went on to say neither the IRS nor the FBI has yet to approach him about his findings.
*Correction:
An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Laureate Education received a sizable amount of money from the U.S. State Department while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state.
International Youth Foundation, whose chairman of the board, is Douglas Becker received the donations from the Department of State before, during and after Hillary Clintonâs tenure as secretary of state. Becker is the Founder and CEO of Laureate Education.
