When talks turns to taxes, both gubernatorial candidates profess concern for the middle class
Pennsylvania's middle class is getting lots of attention from the gubernatorial candidates, but the TV campaign messages are vague and sometimes wrong.
An attack ad for Republican incumbent Tom Corbett claims Democratic challenger Tom Wolf wants to "raise the state income tax on many middle-class Pennsylvania families."
Wolf says his income tax overhaul plan would lower taxes for households with incomes of up to $90,000 and shift higher taxes onto the wealthiest Pennsylvanians.
In a counterattack ad, Wolf claims Corbett has been "sticking it to the middle class."
Wolf cites a nearly $900 million reduction in school funding in 2011 that he says forced up local property taxes, plus more than $2 billion a year in increased gas taxes and motorist fees for transportation improvements.
