U.S. DEA Lauches Probes Of NFL Medical Staff

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration conducted surprise inspections of the medical staff of professional football teams Sunday, reports said. The probe followed a class-action suit earlier this year, in which former players accused National Football League medical staff of giving them prescription painkillers to play through injuries, the Washington Post said. But Sunday's investigation was "administrative" in nature, and no arrests were expected, Agence France-Presse quoted a DEA spokesman as saying. The Post report said the inspections involved about a half dozen teams.
