Travelers Championship generates cash for Connecticut charities big and small

Connecticut charities are expected to be the big winner of this week's Travelers Championship golf tournament.

The top golfer will take home more than $1.1 million. More than 140 charities are expected to share more than $1.6 million.

Travelers says that since it took over as the title sponsor in 2007, the tournament, which operates as a nonprofit, has generated more than $8 million to assist more than 500 local and regional charities.

One of those is a charity walk around the golf course sponsored by 19-year-old Brittany Vose of Cromwell, who lost her father to pancreatic cancer when she was 5.

This is the seventh year the tournament will sponsor her "18-hole stroll" before Sunday's final round. The first six have raised more than $163,000. Vose has been named one of four honorary co-chairs of this year's tournament.
