Facebook's bright future hasn't escaped the attention of the nation's leading investors and money managers, who hold substantial positions in the social networking company. Its top five institutional shareholders (i.e., excluding CEO Mark Zuckerburg, who controls a majority of the voting power at Facebook) own $50 billion worth of its outstanding common stock, equating to an ownership interest of 16.8%.

This is a sizable stake, but it falls within the range of other large publicly traded technology firms, such as Twitter and LinkedIn:

  • Twitter's five biggest institutional shareholders control 15.5% of its outstanding stock. That equates to $2.9 billion worth of its shares at today's price.
  • LinkedIn's five biggest stockholders own 30.1% of its stock. The stakes are worth a combined $6.6 billion.

So, who are Facebook's five biggest shareholders? You can find the answer to this question in the following brief slideshow.
