Target pushes innovation but also promises workers it will fix basic stock problems

Target is using a group of 25 stores in the Los Angeles area to pull together the retailer's top 50 innovations from electronic tags to adviser services in the baby department.

The program will start by early next year. Target will also plans to open a futuristic store in the next 18 to 24 months that will serve as a laboratory for innovation.

The initiatives underscore how Target is trying to improving the store experience, but executives also emphasized it needs to fix some problems like keeping basic necessities in stock.

Target announced the moves Wednesday at an annual event attended by 13,000 store managers and executives from around the country that serves as part pep rally, part business meeting.
