Sports agency votes to close struggling Izod Center, former home of New Jersey Devils and Nets

A struggling sports arena that was home to the New Jersey Devils and the New Jersey Nets is set to close.

State officials voted Thursday to close the Izod Center at the Meadowlands Sports Complex by the end of the month.

The 18,000-seat indoor arena sits across a highway from MetLife Stadium. Besides being home to the NHL's Devils and the NBA's Nets it once hosted the NCAA basketball Final Four. But in recent years it has lost business as the Devils have moved to the Prudential Center in Newark and the Nets now play at the Barclays Center in New York City.

The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority operates the arena and voted 10-2 in favor of closing it.
