Shanghai share index dives more than 8 percent, other Asian stock markets also down

The Shanghai share index has dived more than 8 percent as Chinese shares suffer a renewed sell-off despite government efforts to support the market.

Other Asian stock markets also were lower.

The Shanghai Composite was down 8.5 percent in afternoon trading.
