Rhode Island gas falls another 3 cents to under $3 a gallon for 1st time in 4 years
Gas prices in Rhode Island have fallen another 3 cents and are now averaging less than $3 a gallon for the first time in four years.
Monday's price survey by AAA Southern New England found the average cost of a gallon of regular self-serve in Rhode Island is $2.98. Local drivers are paying 22 cents less than a month ago. The average price last fell below $3 in November 2010.
The national per-gallon average is $2.89.
Drivers filling up in Rhode Island were paying 42 cents more, or $3.40 per gallon on average, a year ago at this time.
The AAA survey found a 33-cent range in prices, from a low of $2.86 to a high of $3.19 a gallon.
