Retailers vow to take action after NY AG warns them against selling toy guns that look real

Big name retailers say they are taking steps to follow a New York state law that prohibits the sale of toy guns that could be mistaken as the real thing.

The law says toy guns cannot be sold in realistic colors unless they bear an orange stripe on the barrel.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on Thursday said his office wrote to Amazon, K-Mart, Sears and Walmart after an investigation found that non-compliant toys were sold online.

A spokesperson for Amazon said Friday the company will identify all non-compliant toys to ensure they aren't sold in New York. The three other retailers said they are also taking similar steps.

Schneiderman's move comes after a 12-year-old Ohio boy with a pellet gun was fatally shot by police.
