Promoters again pushing New Jersey insurance sign-ups but some may remain reticent

The second time around for the health insurance exchange means New Jersey advocates for the program have experience but it could also bring new challenges.

The enrollment period for the insurance plans that are a key part of President Barack Obama's insurance overhaul began Saturday in New Jersey and across the country.

People can sign up for plans until Feb. 15.

More than 160,000 people enrolled for coverage for 2014, and most of them are being subsidized. That number exceeded the expectations of the federal government and advocates. But it means that the people most eager to get coverage have already done so.

The groups promoting the plans say they hope their experience and the stories of the newly covered will help them persuade other uninsured people to register.
