Polish ruling party's electoral program on taxation and pensions slammed as unclear

Poland's business community and political opposition have slammed the ruling party's electoral program on tax and pension funds as unclear.

Over the weekend, Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz presented the Civic Platform party's program ahead of the Oct. 25 general elections. It proposes to widen the range of income tax rates from 18-32 percent to 10-39.5 percent. Contributions to the health care and pension funds would no longer be paid separately, but taken directly from people's taxes.

Kopacz's aide explained Monday that the plan is tailored to fight tax evasion and to improve employment terms. The amount of social security a person pays will change according to their earnings.

The party is trailing in the polls.
