Officials christen revamped visitor center at national park in northern New Jersey

Officials are hoping a renovated visitors' center at Great Falls National Historical Park will turn the northern New Jersey attraction into a thriving tourist destination.

More than 150 people were on hand in Paterson for Tuesday's grand opening of the recently renovated welcome center.

The Record newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/1HU6iYH ) Mayor Jose Torres called the falls sacred ground and the "crown jewel of Paterson and the state."

The ceremony featured the unveiling of a recently restored photograph of the Great Falls taken in 1866. The photo is the only remaining item from the previous visitor center.
