Obama says budget has ideas GOP should embrace, calls on Congress to finance homeland security

President Barack Obama says his budget has ideas that Republicans should embrace and urges Congress to approve spending for the Department of Homeland Security for the remainder of the year.

Funding for homeland security expires Feb. 27. Republicans have attached measures that would undo Obama's immigration actions that aim to shield more than 4 million immigrants from deportation. Obama opposes that language.

Obama says department workers "need certainty in order to do their jobs."

Obama spoke at the beginning of a meeting with his Cabinet and day after sending his $4 trillion budget to Congress.

The president said he and his department heads would also discuss ways to make government more efficient.
