North Dakota Land Board awards $5 million to schools, airports in state's oil-producing region
North Dakota's Land Board has awarded $5 million in grants to schools and airports in the state's oil-producing region.
Officials say the grants are part of a program aimed at helping communities deal with the effects of rapid energy development.
The Land Board this week approved funding about $2 million schools and another $3 million to airports in western North Dakota.
Minot International Airport got the bulk of the money. The airport is received just more than $2 million for the construction of a new passenger terminal and other improvement projects.
The Land Board is headed by Gov. Jack Dalrymple.
