Maine Lobster Festival kicks off Wednesday in Rockland

The 67th annual Maine Lobster Festival is kicking off in Rockland with five days of festivities that celebrate the state's signature seafood.

The festival event draws about 100,000 visitors who put away more than 20,000 pounds of lobster.

Besides lobster, the festival features a sea goddess coronation, a parade, the Coast Guard tall ship Eagle, carnival rides and a race where contestants run across lobster crates floating in the water.

The Eagle arrives on Friday. The 295-foot tall ship serves as a training vessel for the Coast Guard with more than 100 cadets. It'll be open for tours during the festival.
