Lehigh University considers requiring students to live on-campus for first 3 years

Lehigh University is considering a change in its housing policy to require students to live on-campus for their first three years at the Bethlehem school.

The Morning Call reported Thursday (http://bit.ly/1HlaXP1 ) that the recommendation to amend the university's current two-year policy came from the Commission on Residential Environment, which is composed of faculty, staff, students and alumni.

The commission says the number of off-campus parties is rising and often creates a dangerous environment for students.

Their report attributes the increase in off-campus parties to upperclassmen who belong to fraternities and sororities moving off-campus and filling chapter houses with sophomores to meet occupancy requirements.

The associate dean of students says if the change is adopted, it could take a few years to implement.
