House Passes Bill To Fund Homeland Security Past Midnight
The House of Representatives on Friday night easily passed a measure to keep the Department of Homeland Security funded past midnight. The new piece of legislation keeps the agency funded for a week, compared to a measure that was rejected earlier in the day that would have funded the agency for three weeks. Some Republicans have objected to the three-week measure because it didn't defund President Barack Obama's immigration action, while Democrats were against the funding over the short duration of the measure. The bill, which the Senate cleared by a voice vote Friday night, now goes to the president for his signature.
