Homeland Security Shutdown Seems Likely: White House
Funding for the Department of Homeland Security is likely to lapse because of a failure of Congress to pass new funding for the agency by a looming deadline on Friday, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Monday. An expiration of funding "does seem to be where we're headed and that is disappointing," Earnest said at the daily briefing, adding that he held out hope that members of Congress might change course at the last minute. Funding for the agency is embroiled in a fight with the Republican-controlled Congress over President Barack Obama's executive orders on immigration.
