Here are the government's rankings of the leading U.S. airlines and their on-time performance for August. The federal government counts a flight as on time if it arrives within 14 minutes of schedule.

1. Hawaiian Airlines, 92.6 percent

2. Alaska Airlines, 87.8 percent

3. SkyWest, 81.5 percent

4. Delta Air Lines, 79.9 percent

5. Southwest Airlines, 79.8 percent

6. United Airlines, 77.5 percent

7. Virgin America, 73.9 percent

8. ExpressJet, 73.7 percent

9. JetBlue Airways, 73.0 percent

10. American Airlines, 71.9 percent

11. Spirit Airlines, 71.8 percent

12. Frontier Airlines, 65.9 percent

Total for all reporting airlines: 77.6 percent
