An explosion at a Gulf of Mexico oil platform on Thursday afternoon has left one person dead and three others injured, Reuters reported, citing the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. The blast at the Echo Platform -- owned by Fieldwood Energy LLC, a Houston-based portfolio company of private-equity firm Riverstone Holdings LLC -- occurred just before 4 p.m. Eastern time, about 12 miles from the Louisiana coast near New Orleans, the bureau reportedly said. The report didn't indicate the extent of any environmental damage.
