Federal appeals court to consider NCCA appeal of antitrust ruling in favor of student-athletes

A federal appeals court is set to hear the NCAA's appeal of a judge's verdict saying the organization violated antitrust laws by limiting student-athlete compensation.

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco is scheduled to hear arguments Tuesday.

The judge rejected the NCAA's arguments that its model of amateurism was the only way to run college sports. The judge ruled that the NCAA had to allow FBS schools' football players and Division I men's basketball players at least $5,000 a year for rights to their names and images. The money would be put in a trust fund and distributed after they leave school.
