Fair housing group sues New York, saying discrimination keeps blacks from white communities

A group advocating for fair housing practices has sued New York City, saying it promotes segregation by favoring whites for affordable housing in Manhattan neighborhoods that are predominantly white.

The Anti-Discrimination Center filed the lawsuit Tuesday in federal court on behalf of three black plaintiffs.

The lawsuit says it's challenging a city policy that limits applicants for affordable housing to people who already live in the neighborhood. It seeks unspecified damages.

The Anti-Discrimination Center says half of the city's black population lives in about 15 percent of the city's neighborhoods.

The city law office says it will review the complaint before it responds to it.
