Ex-Cabinet official Donna Shalala to lead Clinton Foundation after leaving University of Miami

A Clinton administration official, former Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala, has been tapped to lead the Clinton Foundation as Hillary Rodham Clinton prepares for her expected 2016 presidential campaign.

Former President Bill Clinton announced Shalala's new role as president and chief executive officer of the philanthropy during a meeting Friday of the Clinton Global Initiative University in Coral Gables, Florida.

The ex-president calls Shalala "a remarkable person" and says he will recommend her appointment to the foundation's board. Shalala is departing as president of the University of Miami.

The charity has been under scrutiny for accepting donations from foreign governments as Hillary Clinton prepares for a White House campaign.

Shalala's selection was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.
