Ex-broadcaster James sues Fox Sports, says network fired him for opposition to gay marriage

Former college football broadcaster Craig James has filed a lawsuit against Fox Sports saying he was fired because he had expressed opposition to gay marriage.

The former running back for Southern Methodist University and the New England Patriots filed a lawsuit Monday in Dallas County that seeks at least $100,000 in damages. Fox hired him in August 2013 only to fire him days later.

James is seeking a jury trial to hear claims against the network that include breach of contract and discrimination.

A Dallas attorney for Fox did not immediately return a call seeking comment about the lawsuit.

James last year filed a complaint with the Texas Workforce Commission accusing Fox of firing him because he spoke as a U.S. Senate candidate about his opposition to gay marriage.
