Dorney Park owner challenging federal regulator's findings on worker safety

The owner of a Pennsylvania amusement park is challenging a federal regulator's findings that it failed to protect summertime workers from extreme heat, including a teenager who was burned after collapsing near a deep fryer.

The Easton Express-Times (http://bit.ly/1zbSCTB) reports Cedar Fair Entertainment wants an independent federal commission to review citations issued last month on Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom in Allentown.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration proposed a $7,000 fine over failure to protect outdoor and concession stand workers from sunlight and other heat sources.

Sandusky, Ohio-based Cedar Fair said in a statement Wednesday that all seasonal employees are required to undergo training in how to prevent heat illness and recognize when they need a shaded break and water.

The company operates parks in nine states and Canada.
