Despite the oncoming blizzard, NYSE and Nasdaq say they expect business as usual

The major stock exchanges expect to remain open for trading Tuesday even as a blizzard barrels down on New York City.

Representatives from both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq say they plan on sticking to their normal trading hours, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., despite the snow.

In a statement, NYSE says all of its trading venues will be open for normal trading sessions Monday and Tuesday. Nasdaq OMX Group says the same thing in a separate statement.

With most trading handled electronically instead of between barking traders, it's rare for the exchanges to pause for weather. The NYSE suspended trading for two days after Hurricane Sandy hit in October 2012.
