Despite government backing for 2025 World Expo, Paris bid for 2024 Olympics still in play
French authorities are still considering a possible Paris bid for the 2024 Olympics, even though Prime Minister Manuel Valls has announced his backing for the city's candidacy to host the 2025 World Expo.
Officials at the French presidency and sports ministry deny that Valls' support for the world's fair means that Paris would be unable to bid for the Olympics.
Nathalie Iannetta, the sports adviser to French President Francois Hollande, tells The Associated Press that bidding for the expo won't undermine a potential Olympic bid because "the investments that will be made will benefit both projects."
Ianetta said the results of a feasibility study due in the coming month will be crucial in deciding whether Paris should bid for the games.
