Connecticut's Edible Arrangements sues Google over rival ads

The Connecticut-based fruit bouquet company Edible Arrangements has filed a federal lawsuit against Google, claiming its business is being hurt by rival ads that appear when people use the search engine.

The Hour reports Edible Arrangements claims in its lawsuit filed in early February that Google's placement of rival ads can cause confusion as to whether its services are associated with those of its competitors.

The company is claiming $209 million in damages, $9 million of which it estimates Google earned in advertisement revenue and the remaining $200 million for trademark infringement.

Google has yet to file a response. The company did not respond to a request for an interview.

As of Monday, the company still shows rival companies to users searching for Edible Arrangements.
