City-owned Dallas Love Field could get another parking garage, up to 4K more vehicle spaces

City-owned Dallas Love Field could be getting up to 4,000 more parking spaces.

A Dallas City Council committee on Monday gave preliminary approval to a plan that could produce a new airport parking garage by late 2017.

The Dallas Morning News (http://bit.ly/1GaC1QR ) reports the current parking garage and nearby privately run lots have about 9,000 slots. Space ran out over the Thanksgiving holiday period.

No cost estimate was immediately available for a new parking garage serving Love Field, where restrictions against long-haul flights expired in mid-October. The regulatory changes cleared the way for more nonstop flights.

Southwest Airlines Co. occupies most of the 20 gates at Love Field, which is its main hub. The new terminal airport opened in April 2013.
